It finally came to my town today, and we went with Bruce and Mary Beth and their kids to the 4:15 matinee! What an excellent, edifying, uplifting, "good guys win" kind of movie! It makes you laugh, and it makes you cry, and Ioan Gruffudd ROCKS in this starring role. Makes me want to watch Horatio Hornblower all over again.

I really want to see this soon. There actually are many movies that at the theatres that I want to see, which is unsualy for me.
I loved it too, Carol. I was so energized and encouraged after seeing it. And I was so proud of our Mr. Gruffudd - he did a wonderful job. I predict great things from him as a result of his work in this film. It did make you want to see HH again didn't it? I especially thought of it when he was near the ships! I kept expecting to see the Indefatigable and Capt. Pellew. :)
Wasn't it a great movie? All of us loved it, from 15yodd to 51yodh.
Echoing all the other comments here. Wasn't it great? It was all I like in a movie: great dialog, thought provoking, understated but deep emotions.
Another thought... I was thinking how your photo of this movie is a great finale for your series on the virtues. Wilberforce exemplified several of them... kindness, liberality, patience, diligence.
Becky! You are so right about the character qualities. What a way to sum up the week of virtues.
Sandy, we are rewatching Hornblower, and we turned our friends on to him. I brought the DVD to the movie theatre and B and MB took them home and the family is eating them up!
