9:30 p.m. - "The Love We Found"
After dinner, our tradition has been to watch It's a Wonderful Life, but last year, we added The Muppet Christmas Carol. I absolutely love this film. It is funny and poignant at all the right places. This song at the end is especially touching.
"Light the Lamp not the rat!" LOL!
We watched this first . Then, we watched It's a Wonderful Life until almost midnight. Love this film too. Makes me cry everytime with its message:
"Remember, no man is a failure who has friends."
7:12 p.m. - "Red and Green" Dinner
Every Christmas Eve, we have a dinner with "Red and Green" colors. This year it was red potatoes and meat with green broccoli and beans.
For years, we always had a family over for Christmas Eve, but for the last two years, we have decided to go out and serve in the afternoon and be home with just the family in the evening.
I love it.
3:48 p.m. - Merry Christmas Ester!
We went to see dear Ester. She is 93 years young, loves God and His Word, and is as sharp as a tack! She lost her son in November and was feeling a bit down. She loved seeing our whole family.
2:06 p.m. - GIgantic GIngerbread House I
This is an amazing Gingerbread House at the Timberhill Place Assisted-Living facility on Highland and Spruce. The Beautician started working on it in JULY. It takes over 30 lbs of frosting. You can see below for all the details. It was incredible. 
She makes the figurines by hand!

George did some fudge, and I did the secret toffee (SHHHH). Notice I turned the recipe over so you couldn't see the ingredients
8:44 a.m. - St. Lucia Day on Christmas Eve!
That Santa Lucia is ALWAYS late! We should fire her. Wait, Santa Lucia is ME!

Christmas Vandalism!
CAUGHT IN THE ACT!!!!!
I had some homemade whipped cream that had gone bad. So, I decided to write "Merry Christmas" in whipped cream on our driveway, but I ran out at "Merry"! LOL!
(My children just shook their heads in shame.)

While organizing, I found this cookbook that I inherited from Mor Mor ("Mother's Mother" in Swedish). My grandparents and my mom LOVED pickled herring. It is BIG at Christmas time for the Swedes. Somehow, that love for it didn't get passed down through the 50% Swedish genes. This is not the cover I would chose for this cookbook!

It started out because we were trying to find the "Secret Butter Toffee Crunch" recipe (SHHHH, no one can know) given to me by my friend (who is also secret so you won't bug her for it). I realized I had YEARS of recipes printed off from emails and internet sites that were on letter size paper as opposed to recipe cards which I have fairly well-organized in a box above the stove.
The papers were everywhere. I did have a notebook, but it was far too small for the volume!
SO, I got ambitious and organized all those recipes in a large notebook that I had just cleaned out.
So, here you have the start and finish of my project.

Reading Giovanni's Light
Colleen in Washington told me about this Christmas story. Since the library didn't have it, I ordered it used. This will be a story I will read over and over again at Christmas time! Thanks Colleen.
It was so appropriate that I was reading on the morning of December 23 just like the story! We also had snow like the story!

Gingerbread House Decorating Day
December 18, 2008
We have so many lovely traditions at our house. One of which is decorating gingerbread houses with the Kinkade family. Christopher couldn't come this year because he was stuck at the Boy Scout Christmas tree lot, but it is usually Nathan and Paul who do most of the decorating of the house while the others get distracted rather quickly and go downstairs to the basement of no return.
Mrs. Kinkade, Dee, is one of the kindest people that I know and also the calmest. She manages four children with grace and ease, and they are four very well-behaved, polite children. I know the FIFTH child on the way will be the same with Dee and Michael parenting them.
We love the Kinkade family with all our hearts and will be so sad to see them move to Forest Grove in June. It is great news for Mr. Kinkade though because he is realized his lifelong dream of being a fire chief!
